Book

This book was a kinda cheesy Christian novel. The cool thing is that the author is a doctor, missionary to Africa and has written 10 novels (although not good ones in my opinion).

Movie

This was a good movie, I recommend it.

This was a good suspense movie.

A Tally

So far since August I have watched 9 movies and read 7 books.

Book

This was a good story with what I interpreted as an underlying agenda about TV.

2 Movies = 2 more books

This one I thought was cute but moved slow and was really long.

Drillbit taylor has some funny parts but I was a little dissapointed. I thought Owen Wilson would be funnier.

Book

Slaughterhouse Five- Kurt Vonnegut
I liked this book. I have been wanting to read it for a while and I was pleasantly surprised. The author combines war, humor and maybe even a little sci-fi and it works for him. I would have actually liked to meet Kurt Vonnegut and see if he is as scatterbrained as his writing.

Movie

Eastern Promises-
This movie had a good story to it but was bloody is some spots. I think the highlight was about a 5 minute fight scene between 2 guys and Viggo Mortenson while Viggo was completly naked. It was pretty funny (wasn't supposed to be though). Yay! Viggo. Nay! Naked fighting.

Book

The Ballad of the Sad Cafe- Carson McCullers
Another short novel, only about 100 pages but it was well written. There is no real excitement in the book but enough to keep reading.

Book

Goodbye, Columbus- Philip Roth

And the Movies...

Rails and Ties- Good but bitter sweet, kind of depressing.
Fools Gold- What to be expected of a chick flick
Charlie Wilson's War- A lot of dialogue but interesting. Based on a true events
Because I Said So- Another chick flick
The Air I Breathe- Random and ends suddenly
Be Kind Rewind- Kinda boring and slow. A little dissapointed in Jack Black.

Books

Here are the books I have read so far this month.
The Pillars of the Earth- Ken Follett
I liked this book but it was really long, about 1000 pages. It takes place in the 12th
century and even though it is fiction I thought he was historically accurate in his
perceptions of the church, politics and society.
City Of Truth- James Morow
Sci-fiction (I know it's not my style). About a guy who lives in a world of people incapable of
lying. He learns to lie to save his son from dying.
Blessed art Thou A Monk Swimming- Miriam Dunne
This was an easy read about a Catholic girl growing up in 1960's Dublin. The title is from
her mistaking the verse "blessed art though amongst women"

Starting Now!

So I decided I would try to read a book for every movie I watch from now, August, 2008, to next August 2009. This does not include the books I read to my girls (unless I'm desperate next Aug.). I will be posting comments about each book I read and movie I watch for anyone who cares. So, here I go...
